NSW Moves towards Potential Regulation for Laser and IPL

September 6, 2021

Last week we also received a notification for our contribution to a consultation process as the NSW government Environmental Protection Authority released a Statutory Review:  Radiation Control Act 1990

The review process invites industry stakeholders to put forward their recommendations with regards to regulating lasers and IPLs for cosmetic use.

After many years of pursuing this, we are thrilled that the time has come for NSW to move in adopting regulatory standards for IPLs and Lasers. NSW is one of the unregulated states and this is contributing to extensive operator error as unqualified individuals are providing services to the unassuming public contributing to burns and undermining the reputation of the profession.

In 2020 we were contacted by NSW TAFE to provide a letter of support for a new qualification in IPL hair reduction. We believe that as NSW moves toward regulating these procedures, we understand that Victoria will also soon follow.

If you do not have a qualification in laser or IPL, please contact APAN and we can put you in touch with a reputable institution that can provide you the opportunity to step up your training to a qualification level. Contact info@apanetwork.com 07 5593 0360.
