Adapting to Changes in Weekend Penalty Rates

With the increase in trading over the holiday season, businesses may require their staff to work over the weekend. Please note the new changes to the casual weekend penalty rates, which will commence on December 31, 2023, as they relate to the Hair and Beauty Award.

Saturday penalty rates

These increases commenced as follows:

• From December 31 to April 29, 2023, the Saturday penalty rate rose to 148%

• From April 30, 2023, to December 30, 2023, the rate has increased to 153%

• From 31st December 31st, 2023, the rate will increase to 158%

SUNDAY PENALTY RATES

These increases commenced as follows:

• 31^st December 2022 to 29^th April 2023 Sunday penalty rates rose to 315%

• From April 30 to December 30, 2023, the rate increased to 220%

• From 31st, 2023, the rate will increase to 225%
